    Nikon Rangefinder Compartment Case - RARE VINTAGE PROTECTION NIKON SP NIKON S-3
    This is a rare vintage Nikon Compartment Case designed for the Nikon S-3 and SP Rangefinder Cameras, lenses and accessories. This rigid dark brown hard leather case is in great vintage condition and shows the patina great leather baggage accumulates with use. The condition of this case is far better than that of most. The case ships with the original key to securely lock the top zipper.
    Hailing from the 1950s/1960s, this Nikon Compartment Case, approaching it’s mid-sixties in age, has a replacement shoulder strap. The front pocket flap has notable wear and inside, on the removable lens carrier, one of the leather cinch straps has broken away from it’s rivet. This is repairable issue for any competent leather or shoe repair technician.
    The 1970 edition of Amphoto's “Nikon F Nikkormat Handbook of Photography” describes Nikon Compartment Cases this way:
    “The Nikon compartment cases are designed to satisfy a wide variety of needs for storage of equipment while retaining maximum convenience of access. They could be called ‘eveready compartment cases.’  Their two main functions are to provide scratch-free or mar-proof storage and identifiable places for specific lenses. As to the latter, the photographer can reach quickly to accustomed places for desired lenses without having to read their markings. Having specific compartments to fill before closing the case also provides an automatic inventory function, a protection against loss.”
